Insurance Industry Welcomes First Graduates from The Insurance Practitioner Apprenticeship
One of the key highlights from 2019 was the graduation of the first cohort of Insurance Practitioner Apprentices. Set up in 2016 as a way in which to attract new talent into the industry, the programme has been hugely successful to date and in autumn 2019 there was much cause for celebration when the first 33 apprentices graduated with a BA (Hons) in Insurance Practice, with over 50 per cent earning a First Class Honours Degree.
Game Changer for the Insurance Industry
In recent years, retention of talent had become a major issue across our industry, and so The Insurance Practitioner Apprenticeship was developed as a way to tackle this problem. The goal was to design a programme comprehensive enough to be implemented across any business within insurance and ultimately to develop a national standard of training in order to address the skills shortage.
The ‘earn and learn’ programme was Ireland’s first degree-level apprenticeship and provides apprentices with the opportunity to work for an insurance employer, earn a salary, while also studying for a BA Hons in Insurance Practice.
The apprenticeship has been a game-changer for both insurance employers and apprentices alike – employers have the opportunity to bring a highly ambitious employee on board who is keen to learn every aspect of the business, and the apprentice gets to kick-start their career, while they gain a degree and professional qualifications.
Designed specifically for people of any age, the programme is suited to hardworking and ambitious individuals, who are looking to get started in an exciting career full of opportunities. The Government funded apprenticeship is run in partnership with IT Sligo and also with the LIA (since 2017) – and apprentices complete the degree portion online through distance learning over three years.
Congratulations to the First Graduates!
Since it first launched in 2016, the apprenticeship has gone from strength to strength, with employers and apprentices in all corners of the country reaping the benefits. We were delighted that the first cohort of apprentices graduated in 2019 with such fantastic results, and we wish them every success in their future careers.
